"I think the website was very helpful. I especially liked being able to print out the do's and dont's list. I was able to read and, more importantly, understand what I was reading."

Lorraine Nolan - Bucks County, PA Spring, 2005

"AmericanEnglishExpress.com made me a confident writer. I know the do's and don'ts involved in formal writing. Thanks."

Use of Formal Language:

?o:p>

“One of the things I have learned this year is the use of formal language in my writing. In the past, I used to write the way I talked; this makes it harder for the reader to take you seriously.?o:p>

?o:p>

Repeating words/ expand your vocabulary:

?o:p>

“I have learned that it is important to keep your reader interested throughout your paper. In order to do this it is imperative to avoid repetition.?o:p>

?o:p>

Writing Technique:

?o:p>

“One of the more interesting things I learned was to write the introduction last. Since the introduction is the first paragraph in all essays, this is something I never tried before. After using this method once, I learned this is the easiest way to go about writing your paper.?o:p>

?o:p>

Logic/Outline:

?o:p>

“A paper or paragraph could be interpreted many different ways, according to who the reader is. Another thing I learned this year is how to look at, break down, and understand what I am reading.?o:p>

?o:p>

“First, I have learned to organize my thoughts in an outline before expressing them in writing. I learned that making an outline provided me with a plan. No longer do I write aimlessly. I also saved time due to not having to rewrite completely.?o:p>

?o:p>

Proofreading:

?o:p>

“I have learned careless grammar can lead to misunderstandings. When a word is incorrectly used or left out completely, it can often confuse or frustrate the reader. In order to convey a clear thought, a writer must present an idea clearly. Also, to be viewed as knowledgeable about a subject, a writer must use correct grammar. If mistakes are presented in writing, a reader may often dismiss the writer’s views entirely.?o:p>

?o:p>

Overall:

?o:p>

“Overall, I had an enjoyable time and will take what I learned into the rest of my college experience.?o:p>

?o:p>

“Perhaps the most important thing I learned is the confidence to continue writing. When I started at the beginning, I was doubtful as to my success. Writing, in my opinion, was my biggest academic weakness. I believe I have moved past intimidation. I used to dread writing. Now I view writing as a useful communication tool and as an opportunity to improve my writing ability. In short, I have found that writing has become more fun and less of a chore.?o:p>

?Showing someone you have become an educated person through writing is one of the most important skills to obtain.?/FONT>

"I encourage all students to utilize the website, so they may improve and become successful in writing."
